Our neighbor was an alcoholic. He has been at different levels of drunk for the last 20 years outside of his 8-5 work hours. As a missional community, we have been able to bless him with groceries, spare work, praying over him, deep spiritual converstaions about the nearness of God and community. He reached his “absolute” bottom and was at the end of himself this summer. Every possible family member relationship was ruined, all his friends abandoned him in his ugliness, and only our community and one other lady are the only 2 people he can turn to. He has now been free of alcohol for almost 3 months, and is in a rehab program in OKC. God has brought wonderful, godly men into his life at the program to speak to him about his identity in the Lord and how He can be trusted. He still celebrates every day being alcohol free, and tells us it is “a step at a time.” We believe God is going to totally deliver him and he will be leading a d-group someday.
